Angulo is ranked #9 by the WBO at super middleweight

DAZN’s January 30th Miami card has received a late-notice shot of young talent in the form of super middleweight prospect Anthony Sims Jr., who takes an arguable step up in class against former title challenger Roamer Alexis Angulo on the undercard.

Sims (20-0, 18 KO), a 24-year-old out of Plainfield, IN, made a successful 168-pound debut last year with a decision over Vaughn Alexander on the Srisaket-Estrada II undercard. The trip to the judges snapped a 17-fight knockout streak, but he got back to his finishing ways in September by knocking out Morgan Fitch in six.

“I’m delighted to be fighting for my first belt in Miami – I plan to make it the first of many,” said Sims Jr. “I’ve been ready for this step up for some time and I will prove that I am ready to mix it with the best with a devastating performance on January 30 – it’s time to bring the funk!”

Angulo (25-1, 22 KO) was remarkably well-traveled but mostly unproven when he got the unexpected call to challenge Zurdo Ramirez for the WBO super middleweight belt. That went fairly predictably, as Ramirez cruised to a comfortable unanimous decision. He’s since continued his globetrotting with a pair of knockouts in Suriname and Puerto Rico.

“I am always well prepared when I step in the ring,” said Angulo. “On January 30, my opponent will be facing the most difficult test of his young career. I will do everything I can so that he fails. I hope many of my fans and fellow Colombians living in Miami will come out to see me give my all.”

Angulo looks like a solid opponent for Sims at this stage in the latter’s career and his #9 ranking by the WBO could help fast-track Sims into title contention with a convincing victory.

The main card, headlined by Jake Paul vs. AnEsonGib, also includes Demetrius Andrade vs. Luke Keeler, Tevin Farmer vs. JoJo Diaz, and Daniel Roman vs. Murdojon Akhmadaliev.
