Ruben Villa returns against Alexei Collado in tonight’s ShoBox main event.
Tonight at 10 pm ET on Showtime from Shreveport, Louisiana, it’s another edition of ShoBox: The New Generation, with top featherweight prospect Ruben Villa back in the main event against veteran puncher Alexei Collado.
Villa is a young ShoBox veteran at this point, 22 years old out of Salinas, California, and a sharp southpaw stylist who has some real skills, and could legitimately be close to graduating from this series and onto the world stage.
The 31-year-old Collado, born in Cuba and now living in Miami, has been something of a disappointment since defecting to start a pro career in Ireland in 2008, scoring no real notable wins and suffering setbacks against Rod Salka and Omar Douglas in 2014 and 2016. He has won seven straight, but the opposition has been weak.
Villa-Collado is set for 10 rounds.
We’ll also see Ukrainian welterweight Taras Shelestyuk in action, as the 34-year-old now based in Los Angeles will take on Argentina’s Luis Alberto Veron, a 27-year-old who is 1-1-2 in his last four and is 0-1 outside of Argentina, losing in London last year against Michael McKinson. Shelestyuk-Veron is also set for 10 rounds.
The opener will pit Zhora Hamazaryan against late substitute Sulaiman Segawa to continue the legendary Armenia vs Uganda boxing rivalry. That fight is set for eight rounds at lightweight.
