Digital Mike Tyson won their heavyweight tournament

Despite some computerized controversy, the World Boxing Super Series’ “eWBSS” Fight Night Champion CPU tournament concluded yesterday with virtual Mike Tyson’s knockout of virtual Muhammad Ali. This week, they’ve rounded up an octet of middleweights to do the same.

If you’re curious as to why career super welterweight Fernando Vargas is there, it’s because the game doesn’t really do “junior” or “super” weight classes; the guys in between get lumped in with the others. If you’re further curious as to why the likes of Roy Jones Jr., Bernard Hopkins, and Thomas Hearns aren’t there, it’s because their middleweight incarnations are paid DLC that I’m not even sure you can buy anymore.

Personally, I’ll be pulling for Marvelous Marvin. After reading George Kimball’s “Four Kings” and learning just how many times the man FKA “Brockton Menace” got shafted, I’m eager for his digital counterpart to come up big, even if my many hours of using him convinced me that his right hook is programmed to never, ever connect properly.
