Dana Whites claim of $11 million Contender Series fighter causes stir

Appearing on Dana White's Contender Series could be life changing from a financial standpoint if you play your cards right, at least according to the UFC boss whose name carries the show.

White, who's usually tight lipped when it comes to UFC fighter pay, uncharacteristically got specific last week when he opened his DWCS 88 post-fight news conference revealing that fighters who have made it to the UFC through nine seasons of the Contender Series have earned $225.3 million combined.

"Talk about an opportunity," White said.

On Tuesday following DWCS 89, White again revisited the subject unprompted, this time sharing the earnings of one unnamed Contender Series graduate, who's never fought for a UFC title, as a way to highlight just how lucrative the opportunity could be.

"One of the guys that never fought for a world title has made over $11 million," White told reporters, including MMA Junkie. "So, staying active and keeping yourself out there in everybody's face is not only good financially but, you know, you have a very limited amount of time to make a lot of money – in any sport. Staying active is the move. I love it."

Who could the Dana White's Contender Series $11 million man be?

White wasn't asked to reveal the identity of the fighter in question nor did he volunteer that information, but plenty of folks on the internet were quick to suggest that it's Kevin Holland, who earned his first UFC contract through DWCS in June 2018.

Given White's specific detail that the fighter he referred to has "never fought for a world title," Holland figures to be the only viable candidate given his 29 UFC appearances in nine years, 10 career fight night bonuses, and the likelihood of a huge payday after he agreed to fight Khamzat Chimaev and save UFC 279 following Chimaev's massive weight miss.

Kevin Holland responds to $11 million claim

Holland clearly saw the chatter online about him being the $11 million man from Contender Series.

On Wednesday morning, he issued a video response in one of his Instagram Stories.

"That fighter's not me. I'm just now waking up," Holland said. "I'm telling y'all right now: That fighter's not me. Don't listen to that sh*t."
