Dana White diverts blame regarding Michael "Venom" Page UFC release

Much has been made of Michael “Venom” Page being removed from the UFC roster.

The showman failed to replicate his early career entertainment factor inside the octagon, almost point-fighting his way to wins during his time under the UFC banner. From the outside, having a striker with a 5-1 record inside the company, with his single defeat coming against former title challenger Ian Machado Garry, seems like a no-brainer to keep around once his contract expires. Page accepted any fight given to him, and had true title aspirations. He didn’t allow his age to cloud his success, managing an 83% win ratio in the UFC. But despite all of this, he is the latest casualty on the UFC roster.

Once the news dropped, fans were divided on whether they agreed with the promotion’s decision to call it quits on the Michael “Venom” Page experiment. On one hand, he possesses an incredible win rate and the sought-after capability to deliver viral knockouts, even if those highlight-reel moments have yet to occur in the UFC. On the other hand, he had a willingness to bore his way to a victory and had nothing memorable to show during his two years with the organization.

Whether he agreed with the decision or not, Dana White diverted the blame. White said he has nothing to do with fighter movement. If the matchmakers choose to keep fighters around, they have their reasons, but it has nothing to do with the CEO.

“Listen, at the end of the day, the matchmakers make the decisions on who stays and who goes. And they didn’t want to re-sign him.”

This comes days after Dana White confirmed the UFC wouldn’t be re-signing Page following his six-fight stint with the company.
