Brian Ortega shares full details on the cut that forced him out of UFC 331
Brian Ortega has shared further details about the cut that forced him out of UFC 331.
The former featherweight title challenger has endured a rough few years, and that worsened earlier this week. ‘T-City’ was pulled from his scheduled clash with Renato Moicano due to an injury he got during training. A wound over the eye left the submission specialist with no choice but to call off his matchup against Moicano; the second failed booking of their fight this year.
Instead of sitting in silence, Brian Ortega has apologized to his true fans who wanted to see him compete.
“For all of you who are saying that I pulled out because I’m scared, I’m ducking, whatever; you guys are stupid people among stupid people,” Ortega said. “I’m not even going to sugarcoat that sh*t; you guys are some dumbasses.”
“For those of you who are mad because I pulled out and you genuinely want to watch me fight, and you’re mad at the situation and you’re mad that this sh*t happened, for you guys I’m sorry. That sh*t ain’t cool. This is not something that I expected to happen. It’s something that, I just can’t hide this. I would have to see commission today, and I would have to hide this today from them. And that’s just not going to happen… I’m f***ing sorry.”
Speculation mounted on how Ortega could have sustained such a deep cut just days before his fight. Surprisingly, it was a headbutt during a jiu-jitsu session that opened up the gash on his head, as opposed to rumors of him going hard in sparring.
“This is a freak accident that happened doing jiu-jitsu. I wasn’t sparring, I wasn’t [whatever], I was doing jiu-jitsu,” Ortega added. “Going over the last details; the last game plans. Getting just a last sweat, and this f***ing headbutt happened.”
“At the time, they said it was a small cut. I was happy. And then when we found out how many stitches it was and how big it was and what it did, we just can’t hide that, man.”
