Brandon Moreno reveals battle with mental health

MVP Boxing |

Brandon Moreno has opened up about his mental health struggles.

One of the most loved fighters in the sport, the proud Mexican has set a perfect example of dealing with adversity and bouncing back throughout his career. His 15-year career has brought much success, but his mental well-being has been affected over the years.

Speaking out about his struggles, Brandon Moreno insisted that his deteriorating mental health has echoed some of his past performances, saying:

“Everything has been like this, you know? Because sometimes you feel amazing. Like, for example, I remember the fight against Amir Albazi; my mind was just super on point. With Erceg, the same. But then, against Tatsuro and Lone’er, my mind was everywhere. Obviously, that’s an excuse, because I know every single fighter has mental battles every single time. But it is what it is. I would love to perform in the best way possible, but my mind wasn’t able to do it.”

“But this time, I put a lot of focus on there… At some point in this career, everything is about your mind and how you can control your emotions, and how you can keep focused under pressure.”

Being 100% mentally prepared is a big part of professional sports, especially at the highest levels. Moreno believes he has put some good work in on improving his mental health, which can only ever be a positive thing.

“In other sports. Like Michael Jordan or Khabib Nurmagomedov, other sports. Everything is about the mental part at the end,” Moreno added. “I feel it’s stupid because it sounds like an excuse. But no, I don’t have any necessity to say that. I would love to just feel free again inside of the octagon, like before.”

“But yeah, I did an amazing job. I started working with my therapist, Jasmin, from Mexico. We’ve been working so hard with my mind and this process; all this training camp was amazing.
