UFC 334 announced, heavyweight title fight headlines massive NYC card

The UFC’s heavyweight division finally has some clarity. During the UFC 331 broadcast, the broadcast team of Jon Anik, Joe Rogan, and Daniel Cormier announced the full UFC 334 card, and it doesn’t disappoint. 

Headlining the November numbered event at Madison Square Garden, the heavyweight title will finally be fought for. Now undisputed champion Ciryl Gane makes his first title defense against surging contender Josh Hokit

Both fighters last fought on the historic UFC White House card. Gane won the interim title against Alex Pereira. Hokit made light work of former title challenger Derrick Lewis. Now within a year of joining the UFC, Hokit could become champion. 

This main event, of course, stems from Tom Aspinall having to vacate his title. Aspinall was double-eye poked by Gane, resulting in multiple surgeries and setbacks in his vision.

Even under horrible circumstances, the division needed to move forward, and it does with this new title fight. The huge matchups don’t end there, though. Another major title fight is incoming as the co-main event. 

Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes finally booked at UFC 334

The biggest fight in women’s MMA today, and one of the biggest fights in the history of women’s MMA. Kayla Harrison returns from a major neck injury to defend her title against the GOAT.

Amanda Nunes last fought in June of 2023, defending her bantamweight title against Irene Aldana. Nunes is the undisputed GOAT of women’s MMA. 

She holds the record for most title-fight wins with 11 finishes, including 10, and is the only woman to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.  

This fight has lore behind it too. Harrison and Nunes were teammates at American Top Team. The two fighters always supported each other, but questions began to surface about who the best female fighter in the world is. 

Nunes left ATT in 2022, after losing to Juliana Pena, but also to avoid potential training conflicts with Harrison. Now the two best women in the world square off in the world’s most famous arena.

Along with two spectacular title fights, the rest of the card features notable names and high-level competition.

No. 11 Bia Mesquita vs No. 13 Mia Chiasson (women’s bantamweight)

Adrian Yanez vs Juan Diaz (bantamweight)

Nazim Sadykhov vs Jefferson Nascimento

While there isn’t much depth in the ranked fights, there’s no shortage of fireworks-potential bouts. Barralho can earn another fight towards the top of middleweight with a statement win over Belgaroui. 

Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson makes his final walk to the octagon after a storied career, fighting for the welterweight title twice. Susurkaev is one of the organization’s brightest prospects, regardless of weight class. 

The card as a whole certainly isn’t an A+ that’s stacked top to bottom. Nevertheless, a heavyweight title fight is always big business.
