Gable Steveson got annihilated by Sean Sharaf at UFC 331 last weekend in Los Angeles, despite sailing into “The Golden State” as the odds-on betting favorite with a remarkable closing range of -2500 to -3335.

It wasn’t that outrageous when you consider that Steveson, 26, came into the contest as an Olympic gold medalist with a perfect 4-0 record in MMA, with all four wins ending by way of knockout. In addition, the middling Sharaf had previously been stopped by Junior Tafa and Steven Asplund.

I guess “The Smoke” (and the War Gods) had other plans.

Steveson’s upset loss was the biggest in UFC history for sportsbook BetOnline.ag, topping the recent record breaker between Myktybek Orolbai and Jeremiah Wells. Prior to that contest, Ronda Rousey held the No. 1 spot with her UFC 193 knockout loss to Holly Holm in Australia.
