Alexander Volkov admires UFC for giving mentally ill Josh Hokit a title shot

Josh Hokit jumped the queue and will fight for UFC gold next. Surprisingly, division rival Alexander Volkov has agreed with the company’s decision.

On a two-fight win streak, Volkov is ranked #4 and #2 in the Meta and Media rankings, respectively. In both of those, he is placed above the controversial Hokit. But that didn’t factor in for the promotion when they decided to hand Hokit the shot at Ciryl Gane‘s heavyweight throne next. Many disagreed with the choice, believing others more deserving. Volkov has now backed the UFC, sarcastically.

In a hilarious parody, Alexander Volkov announced his support for the UFC and Josh Hokit after he was announced as the next contender for the crown. Volkov pointed to Hokit’s supposed mental illness as the reason he was given the shot, saying:

“I very support this fight from the UFC. I have a lot of reasons that this fight should happen. Josh Hokit, what I know about him, he has a- clearly dealing with something mental illness. So, it’s very admirable for the UFC to put the guy with a serious mental condition to title shot. So, of course, he should go in front of me.”

Continuing his amusing facade, Volkov said:

“You know, guys with this kind of reason should fight first. For him, it’s not possible, I think, in my opinion, to beat somebody in top five right now. So, this is the easiest way to American heavyweight to get title shot right now. It’s an incredibly inspiring story of the guy with a mental illness who can fight for heavyweight title. I very support UFC with that and it’s a very noble thing.”

Alexander Volkov will have to earn his way to a title shot. He faces Rizvan Kuniev at UFC 333 on October 24.
