The title fight between Silva vs. Cong has been heavy-scrutinized ever since it was announced to headline a numbered UFC event. The fight came to be after Valentina Shevchenko had to withdraw from her fight against Silva because of a serious injury, prompting her to leave her title behind. Now, Silva has to turn her attention to a different foe, though thankfully she had plenty of time to adjust. Silva is currently ranked No. 1 in the division and and riding a 14-fight win streak, which includes going perfect (8-0) inside the Octagon. In her last three fights, she defeated former champions Jessica Andrade, Rose Namajunas and Alexa Grasso. That is a great run and she is now just one more win away from putting a cherry on top of it.

Many felt the promotion could have gone another route by putting someone with a bigger name (and higher ranking) to face Silva such as the aforementioned Grasso (No. 2) or Erin Blanchfield (No. 3). Thankfully, a numbered event no longer requires an $80 payment to watch, so when you look at that way, you’re not missing much. Nevertheless, matchmakers opted to go with Cong (No. 6), who is on a four-fight win streak and 6-1 overall inside the Octagon. That said, when you compare her resume with Silva’s (don’t get them confused like Dana White did) it pales in comparison, with her biggest win coming against Tracy Cortez. Still, Cong has the chance of a lifetime to realize her combat dreams by upsetting Silva, capturing the strap and setting up a big-money fight against Shevchenko. To do that, however, “Joker” will have to be pretty much perfect because Silva has shown little-to-no weakness inside the cage.

Original Card Vs. Actual Card/Injuries

As mentioned earlier, former women’s 125-pound champion, Shevchenko, was forced to withdraw from the main event because of a serious injury that will keep her out for at least a year, allowing Cong to step in and fill the void. Also, Bernardo Sopaj was forced out of his fight against Marcus McGhee, allowing newcomer Anthony Romeroto step in on short notice.

New Blood:

Anthony Romero received an opportunity of a lifetime to make his UFC debut after Bernardo Sopaj bowed out of his fight against Marcus McGhee. Romero is currently on a two-fight win streak and has an overall record of 7-2-1 since making his professional debut five years ago. All but one of his wins come by way of finish, so he definitely tries to show out every time he steps foot inside a combat cage. As for McGhee, he has quietly gone 5-1 under UFC’s banner with three finishes. He is on a decent run, now he needs to make sure he does not underestimate a UFC rookie.

Lucas Armand will look to add some depth to the promotion’s 265-pound weight class, coming into the company with an undefeated record of six straight wins with five finishes. His first challenge will come in the form of Anthony Wint, who has yet to “Bow Down” to anyone in his career, racking up an eight-fight win streak, which includes winning his UFC debut against Terrance Chatman via first round submission earlier this year (see it here).

Also, Bruce Whitehead will be making his own UFC debut after racking up an 8-2 record under Fury FC’s banner. The high school wrestling standout has a great opportunity on two weeks notice to upset one of the most promising rising prospects in the game in Jacobe Smith, who is undefeated (12-0). He is perfect (3-0) under UFC’s banner, which includes two first round knockouts and one submission.

How The ‘Prelims’ Look:

The undercard, actually, is a bit more “stacked” with well-known names than the main card, which includes familiar faces such as Marvin Vettori, Rafael dos Anjos, Johnny Walker and Alexander Hernandez, so let’s take a look at all of the action.

Up at Heavyweight, Walker will attempt to get back into the win column after suffering a split decision loss in a Light Heavyweight bout against Dominick Reyes in his previous outing. Walker is just 1-3 in his last four fights so he hopes a move up to Heavyweight will be what he needs to turn things around for himself. He will battle Mick Parkin, who suffered the first (and lone) defeat of his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career in his most recent fight against Marcin Tybura earlier this year. If Walker can’t get a win here, there is no telling where his career takes him.

dos Anjos currently finds himself on a terrible losing streak, having lost three straight and four of his last five fights. UFC’s former Lightweight champion has really gone downhill as the years have endured, though it’s nothing out of the ordinary for aging fighters. He will attempt to get back in the win column for the first time in a long time when he battles Alexander Hernandez, who saw his four-fight win streak go up in smoke after running into Rafa Garcia.

Court McGee vs. Eric Nolan will throw down in a pivotal fight that could see the loser get cut by the promotion. McGee is 1-4 in his last five fights, while Nolan is 0-2 inside the Octagon. A third straight loss will give UFC matchmakers all the right and reason to let him go for failing to produce. On the flip side, if McGee can’t right his ship and get back into the win column, his UFC career could come to an end after 16 years.

Loser of two straight, Andrey Pulyaev has to turn it around in hurry since he has a very lackluster 1-3 record under UFC’s banner. The hard-hitting Russian will next tango with Damian Pinas, who is currently riding a red-hot, six-fight win streak, which includes two first round knockouts in his first couple of appearances inside the Octagon (see them here and here).

Who Needs A Win Badly:

Marvin Vettori is in desperate need of a win. “The Italian Dream” has lost his last four fights, and is is 2-6 in his last eight bouts. That’s a big downfall for a man who once competed for the Middleweight title. Vettori has looked like a shell of his former self over the last few years, but he has one more chance to turn it around when he goes up against Ismail Naurdiev, who is 2-1 in his young UFC career. Should Vettori lose his fifth straight, I can see the promotion moving on from him.

Interest Level: 6/10

In the co-main event, Figueiredo — UFC’s former Flyweight champion — looks to stop the bleeding of his two-fight skid when he goes up against Talbott, a red-hot rising star. Over his last five fights, Figueiredo has only managed to get into the winner’s circle once, with his losses coming against the cream of the crop in the form of Song Yadong, Umar Nurmagomedov, Cory Sandhagen and Petr Yan. Now, he faces a surging contender looking to carve his own path in the division. Talbott has been nothing short of impressive since making his UFC debut in 2023. He has racked up a record of of 5-1 with his lone defeat coming at the hands of the ever-durable, Raoni Barcelos. This is a great matchup to see where each man is. For Talbott, defeating a seasoned former champion like Figueriedo will show us that he is ready to take the next big steps. For “Daico,” defeating a young up and comer like Talbott will remind everyone that he still has something left to offer the fight game.

When you tune in to a King Green fight, you know you are in for a treat. Win, lose or draw, Green lays it all on the line, never stops coming forward and isn’t afraid to put on a show. Green is currently enjoying a four-fight win streak, the longest for him under UFC’s banner. One more win and he could finally find himself in the Top 15. His next challenge comes in the form of Esteban Ribovics, who has been unable to find much rhythm when it comes to collecting wins over the last few years. He is an even 2-2 since 2025 and is coming off a technical knockout win over Edson Barboza (see it here).

Khaos Williams managed to avoid a three-fight skid, knocking out Nikolay Veretennikov in the first round this past summer (highlights). He will welcome UFC newcomer, Roberto Soldic, to UFC’s cage, a hard-hitting Croatian who has been waiting for the call up. “Robocop” is coming off a first round knockout win under ONE Championship’s banner, but it was under KSW’s umbrella where he made his name, winning both the Welterweight and Middleweight titles. He went 8-1 with the promotion, racking up seven knockouts in the process. The fight has war written all over it.

Ateba Abega Gautier has not disappointed so far and has lived up to the hype many had for him. Making his debut in early 2025, “The Silent Assassin” has won all five of his fights with the promotion, four of them by way of knockout with three coming in the opening round. The hulking Cameroonian wants to keep his momentum going when he takes on battle-tested Roman Kopylov, who has been up-and-down over the last couple of years. After suffering back-to-back losses at the hands of Paulo Costa and Gregory Rodrigues, he managed to get back onto the winner’s podium by defeating Marco Tulio. He is more than prepared to give Gautier a hard time in the cage, and if he can pull off the upset, his stock gets a much-needed boost.

Enjoy the fights!
