Gervonta Davis, the WBA lightweight and WBA super featherweight champion, is looking for more gold as he climbs into yet another weight class to collide with Mario Barrios for his WBA super lightweight belt.
The two men will meet at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 26. Looking at Gervonta Davis vs Mario Barrios odds, the current super lightweight champ is the underdog while the challenger who is moving up in weight is the favorite.
Online sportsbook Bovada has released the Davis vs Barrios odds with Gervonta listed as the -500 favorite and Mario the +350 underdog. This means you would have to wager $500 to profit $100 on a Davis win, while a $100 bet on a Barrios victory would profit you $350.

Looking at the Davis vs Barrios odds, Gervonta’s odds of -500 represent an implied win probability of 83.33 percent while Mario’s odds of +350 have an implied win probability of 22.22 percent.
Barrios was a slight -160 favorite when he fought Batyr Akhmedov for the vacant WBA super lightweight title, a fight he won via unanimous decision. Outside of that fight, if you had placed a bet on “El Azteca,” you would have had to open your wallet as he was a four-figure favorite for his other fights that odds were available for.
You have to go all the way back to 2017, when he was a +120 underdog against Jose Pedraza for the IBF super featherweight title, to find a better betting line on Gervonta Davis. Tank won that fight and has been a sizable favorite ever since, with this bout against Barrios being his tightest line since then.
It is no secret that Davis has exceptional punching power, possessing a record of 24-0 with 23 of those victories coming by knockout. The only fight that went the distance was way back in 2014 – a six-round bout when Davis was just 19.
Although Tank has devastating power, he doesn’t just rush in recklessly but rather sets up his shots with an outstanding fight IQ. That fight IQ could be attributed to being the protege of all-time great Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Although El Azteca will be the bigger man in the ring, I think he may also be the quicker of the two. He will need to use that speed to repeatedly snap his jab and utilize his footwork to avoid the heavy counter that is undoubtedly coming back his way.
At times, Barrios will put his foot down and get into a bit of a firefight as his hand speed is impressive and it packs a punch. However, I don’t know how keen he will be to get into a war with Davis, who I would think has the bigger punching power.
Ultimately, I think Barrios will attempt to get into those exchanges with Tank to impose his will and show that he can bang too. But Davis’s fight IQ and his ability to capitalize on an opening will be the difference-maker. At some point, he’ll land one of his bombs and end the night.
