Anthony Joshua recruits Tyson Furys uncle, Peter Fury, to help in stunning mega-fight twist
Anthony Joshua has changed his training team so often that his corner could use a revolving door.
After working with Iegor Golub and Team Oleksandr Usyk for his past two fights — knockout wins over Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga — Joshua has once again linked up with a new head trainer for his upcoming superfight against Tyson Fury.
Except, his next training team isn't exactly new. It is a return to Ben Davison, who cornered Joshua for three fights from 2023-24, including two wins and a devastating upset loss against Daniel Dubois.
But Davison won't be the only addition to Joshua's training team for the Dec. 11 fight in Cardiff, Wales.
"I speak to Peter Fury," Joshua told the media minutes before Wednesday's press conference. "He's willing to help me as well. Yeah, I'll speak to him.
"[Peter] has given me some good ideas about our training and our approach, how I can approach this fight and where I can improve.
"What I've got to do is take control of my fight with [Tyson] Fury, but also add their touch. And with these two powerhouses [Davison and Peter Fury] coming together, I think it will be a match made in heaven. I do believe that."

Peter, the uncle of Tyson Fury, trained "The Gypsy King" in the early days of his career, and it was Peter who masterminded one of the biggest upsets in history by a British boxer when Tyson Fury dethroned unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 in Germany.
The fight ended up being the last between the pair. When Fury returned in 2018, he did so under Davison's guidance after a hostile split with his uncle.
The exchanges between the British duo at their kickoff press conference Wednesday in London began over their infamous 2011 sparring session.
"There was a thing about a Rolex watch, as well," Fury recalled. "If anyone could drop me, I'd give them a Rolex watch, which he said in the past — and guess what? I left that building with a f***ing Rolex on."
"He left the ring with his Rolex watch, but he also left the ring with a black eye as well," Joshua responded.

Fury first spoke about sparring with Joshua in 2011, 12 months before the latter won Olympic gold in London. The former heavyweight champion was initially complimentary about Joshua's performance in the spar, but over time, that has changed.
On Wednesday, Fury said he didn't recall sparring Joshua particularly well, except for one detail.
"What I do recall, though, is AJ getting whacked around the body and putting his knees up in the corner," Fury said.
The war of words between Fury and Joshua didn't last long, though. There was a sense of mutual respect between the pair throughout the press festivities.
"If you could achieve 10% of what this man's achieved, you'd be f***ing doing well," Fury said of his rival.
That being said, Fury insisted it would be a fire-fight on Dec. 11 — and one that he'd emerge victorious from.
"I'm going to come out, and I'm going to blast him out of there," Fury exclaimed. "It will be a gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and it will be the best man's going to win, because I ain't going to run away. I'm not going to box. I'm going to throw down. And from what I'm seeing, I'm going to catch him — and when I do, it's going to be curtains."

"I stand here today as the most awkwardly-built world heavyweight champion in the history of sport," Fury continued. "I'm a bald, fat, bearded, ugly, slow, ponderous — all of the above. Whatever people want to say, but at the end of the day, I get s*** done."
After hearing Fury's speech, Joshua responded that everything his rival was saying was true, which was met with laughter at the British Airways ARC.
Fury continued to say that Joshua was "carved in stone like Olympia — made of marble," but that did not help his chin.
Joshua was knocked down twice by Prenga in July and was on the floor four times at the hands of Dubois and Andy Ruiz in their heavyweight title fights in 2024 and 2019, respectively.
