Michael "Venom" Page removed from UFC rankings

Michael “Venom” Page seemingly hasn’t done enough to be offered a new contract with the UFC.

On paper, ‘MVP’ has been in scintillating form since arriving in the UFC from Bellator two years ago. Wins over fan favorites like Kevin Holland and Shara “Bullet” followed by a unanimous decision victory against former UFC middleweight title challenger Jared Cannonier make up the Brit’s 5-1 record in the company. Unfortunately for the showman, he hasn’t been able to recapture the entertainment and swagger that he had during his days outside of the octagon. So, similar to other fighters in recent history, Page looks to have been offloaded despite having a respectable winning run in the company.

Michael “Venom” Page used to frustrate opponents, forcing them to make mistakes and landing big, in turn adding to his career of highlight-reel knockouts. Now, it’s the fans who have grown impatient with his style. His lack of drive in fights often leads to stalemates on the feet and point-fighting, which has been his downfall in the UFC.

After another lackluster win on Saturday, the 39-year-old has seen the door. UFC officials have removed him from their rankings, alerting voters to their decision earlier today.

The update read:

“Dear Panelists: Michael Page has been removed from rankings eligibility effective immediately. If you have ranked him in your middleweight division already, we ask that you please re-rank that division to make sure you have 15 athletes.”

The excitement of his earlier career didn’t translate over to the UFC, therefore, reportedly forcing the company to close the door on an unsuccessful chapter with one of the sport’s true entertainers.

While no reaction has been posted by Michael Page, there are several options still out there for him. Another test of his luck in bare-knuckle boxing could be high on his list, while promotions like PFL and ONE Championship would gladly add the veteran to their rosters.
