Oleksandr Usyk responds to Tyson Fury call out
With his hopes of facing Anthony Joshua in critical condition, Tyson Fury has turned his attention to Joshua’s new training partner, Oleksandr Usyk.
The Ukrainian cemented himself as the greatest heavyweight of his generation after taking Fury’s undefeated record with back-to-back wins in 2024. Usyk went on to collect two more victories after his fights with ‘The Gypsy King’ and has since announced his retirement from boxing, riding off into the sunset with a perfect 25-0 record. His time away from the ring lasted all of four months, with the 39-year-old now hinting at a return.
Demoralized by the Anthony Joshua saga, Tyson Fury decided to switch his target. Instead of chasing his fellow Brit, Fury called out the only man to ever beat him during his 18-year career. Well, to many’s surprise, Usyk’s response was positive.
In a video showing him walking backwards on a treadmill, Usyk agreed to Fury’s bout request, saying:
“Hey, Tyson. I’m coming for you, my brother. You greedy belly.”
Tyson Fury has spent months trying to strike an agreement with Anthony Joshua, to no success. Both camps are blaming the other, but Fury has publicly claimed several times that he has agreed to all stipulations Joshua’s team put into the contract. Despite that, Fury is stating that ‘AJ’ still won’t face him.
A location dispute has seemingly been a smokescreen for the real problem stopping the fight from happening. While it should have occurred ten years earlier, the demand for a Fury vs. Joshua clash still dominates the boxing world. Though Oleksandr Usyk has stolen the number one spot of heavyweights this generation, the battle for Britain remains strong.
Tyson Fury has the strongest claim to be the UK’s best titan of the modern era, but if Anthony Joshua can score a decisive win against him, he could declare that title.
