Ryan Garcia shows off injury from crazy street fight

Ryan Garcia took more damage in the days following the Conor Benn fight than during the actual fight itself.

Making the first defense of his WBC welterweight world title against a gritty brawler has never been so simple. Garcia made easy work of Benn, showing the levels between a champion-caliber fighter and a tough contender. Speed and power were on display on Saturday night, as the Mexican-American weathered an early onslaught, avoided any big damage, and landed a big shot of his own. While Benn showed heart and did his best to stay in the fight, Garcia delivered too much punishment and the referee decided to step in. A second-round knockout without sustaining any injuries leaves the 28-year-old in a good place.

However, one day after his dominant win, Ryan Garcia injured his hand. Fresh from the fight with Conor Benn, Garcia decided to showcase his talent with a friend.

“I hurt my hand more so fighting somebody on Sunday night,” Garcia said. “The homie. He wanted that work. I still had energy. I said, ‘Let’s get it.’ We just started brawling in the room. Yeah. We was both lit, and he wanted that work, so I gave him it. Bare-knuckle. [He’s not a fighter], but he wanted the smoke, though. Who won? Come on now… Easy work.”

Ryan Garcia now looks ahead to a potential December outing as the dust settles on an impressive first title defense. During his Sunday brawl with a friend, Garcia confirmed he sustained some cuts to his knuckles.

While that is more than his opponent, Conor Benn, managed, the cuts aren’t anything serious and won’t keep him out of action for any amount of time.

“Yeah, of course. A couple of little scratches,” Garcia continued. “It’s all good.”
