Jon Anik: Ilia Topuria accusing Gaethje of glove tampering a push for rematch

LOS ANGELES – Jon Anik isn't putting too much stock into Ilia Topuria serious accusation towards Justin Gaethje.

Topuria (17-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC), who was broke both his orbital bones in a title loss to Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250, claimed "The Highlight" put something in his gloves during their fight. Andy Foster, one of three regulators at UFC Freedom 250, told USA TODAY Sports that Gaethje's "gloves and wraps were fine and totally within regulations."

Anik recently said there are internal discussions in the UFC to have an immediate rematch between Gaethje (28-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) and Topuria, which is why he thinks Topuria made those claims.

"Justin Gaethje has tremendous genetics," Anik said during Thursday's UFC 331 pre-fight press conference. "Even after that win over Ilia Topuria, he acknowledged his parents' bone density. I think anybody who has shaken Justin Gaethje's hands knows that guy's got some natural gifts, and he used them to the best of his ability on June 14. I'm not sure if Topuria is maybe angling for a rematch or what, but I think those words are a little bit forgettable, and I think he would probably recognize that, as well."

Gaethje scoffed at Topuria's comments, and reminded "El Matador" how much damage he's inflicted on his opponents throughout the years. Gaethje however did appear to change his tune on a rematch after initially dismissing the idea.
