Dana White made a mistake while defending the main event of UFC 332, crediting Wang Cong with wins that belong to her opponent.

Wang faces Natalia Silva for the vacant UFC women’s flyweight championship on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. The title opened up after Valentina Shevchenko was forced to vacate it due to injury. Silva had been expected to challenge Shevchenko next.

The UFC CEO spoke to reporters ahead of the event and was asked why Wang was getting the title shot.

“Rankings are well. If you look at what she’s done in her body of work. She’s 10-1. I was just saying, she beat Rose Namajunas, she beat [Jessica] Andrade, she beat [Alexa] Grasso. And she beat Valentina Shevchenko in a kickboxing match. As you look through the roster and look at who Shevchenko has beaten and cleaned out, she’s the one who should be fighting on Saturday night.”

When speaking to the media earlier today, Dana White is asked why Wang Cong is getting a title shot.

Naturally, he runs down her resume and starts listing notable wins.

He says she beat Namajunas, Andrade and Grasso.

Problem is, though, she’s NEVER fought ANY of those.… pic.twitter.com/wT4Xty6K5h

Wang has never fought Rose Namajunas, Jessica Andrade, or Alexa Grasso. All three of those wins belong to Silva. She beat Andrade by unanimous decision in September 2024, beat Grasso at UFC 315 in May 2025, and beat Namajunas at UFC 324 in January 2026.

White did get two parts of Wang’s record right. She is 10-1 as a professional, and she beat Shevchenko by unanimous decision in a kickboxing match at Kunlun Fight 33 in 2015.

Wang’s actual UFC run is 5-1. Her UFC wins include victories over Ariane da Silva, Bruna Brasil and Eduarda Moura, and she most recently beat Tracy Cortez by unanimous decision in July. Her only loss came against Gabriella Fernandes in November 2024.

Silva enters the fight at 20-5-1 and on an eight-fight winning streak in the UFC. That is the second-longest win streak in UFC women’s flyweight history, behind only Shevchenko.

White’s comments came as fans have questioned the card. UFC 332 is a numbered event, but many fans online have pointed to a lack of star power at the top and throughout the lineup, and some have called Silva vs. Wang one of the weakest UFC main events in recent memory.

Shevchenko has not fought since successfully defending the title against Zhang Weili in November 2025.
