Sal Everett wants to keep his UFC day job after earning contract at DWCS 95

LAS VEGAS – Sal Everett is not quite ready to let go of his job as a UFC employee.

Everett (5-0) earned a UFC contract after knocking out Ozzy Martin (4-1) in the first round at Dana White's Contender Series 95 on Tuesday from Meta APEX. Dana White said his assistant doesn't need to work for him anymore now that he has a UFC contract, but the 29-year-old thinks it's not enough just yet.

"I want to stay in this building," Everett said during the DWCS 95 post-fight news conference. "I love it here, and I feel like don't fix what's not broken, and yeah, we just continue to keep working. ... I guess that's legal questions for all those guys upstairs. I'm just a runner, so what do I know? I'm just here to work, and I'm here to fight. I just heard Dana recently say he doesn't think that I need to (move to Zuffa Boxing or Power Slap), so I'm more than happy to continue work for him."

Not only does Everett want to keep his job, he wants to jump right back into action as soon as possible.

"I want to be very active," Everett said. "I'm here for a good time, and I'm a fan of the whole welterweight division. So, I want to build my resume by fighting everybody in the welterweight division."

Everett will have to balance work with training – something he did to prep for DWCS.

"I used all my PTO and sick time to get a month off and just locking in on this fight, and Dana and Nicole fully backed me behind it," Everett said. "And it all worked out perfectly because I was able to focus on training a few times a day. ... For sure, I'm going to choose a scrap, but bills ain't going to pay themselves, so I've got to continue to put some food on my table."
