Dana Whites Contender Series Week 4 Results: Highly-touted Adam Darby shines in main event

The fourth week of Dana White’s Contender Series’ tenth season took place on Tuesday at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. The fight card featured five fights with 10 athletes competing for potential spots on the UFC roster.

The fight card was headlined by a welterweight bout between Adam Darby (7-1) and Patrick Rivera (13-4). Both entered the bout riding six-fight winning streaks.

Darby was highly touted and heavily favored heading into the fight.

Darby pressed forward and stood the fight to Rivera. He established his jab early and used his reach well. Rivera opted for a leg kick. Darby continued to utilize his jab. Darby began mixing in oblique kicks to Rivera’s lead leg. Darby stepped in with a knee to the body and Rivera clinched. He drove Darby to the cage but they soon separated. Darby doubled up with his jab. Rivera fired back but Darby stayed just out of range.

Darby pressed forward to start the second. Rivera met him with two right hands. Darby went back to landing his jab. Rivera circle on the outside and landed leg kicks but Darby set the pace. The jabs continued to land and Darby started mixing in right hands. Darby connected with a clean right hand with 90 seconds remaining. Darby picked up the pace in the final minute. Rivera’s face was wearing the damage. Rivera unloaded a right hand that connected. Darby ended the right with a right hand of his own.

Darby pressured Rivera to start the final frame. Darby pressed forward with a combination. He looked to land a left high kick. Rivera’s right found a home but he was unable to together moire than one shot. Darby stepped in with a knee to the body. The referee called in the doctor to check Rivera. The fight was called off. It had gotten extremely one-sided.

The official time of the stoppage was of the third round.
