Dana White addresses Raoni Barcelos scare at UFC Vegas 121: ‘Thank God, he’s doing well’

Raoni Barcelos is doing OK.

On Saturday, Barcelos suffered one of the scariest moments in UFC history when he collapsed in the fifth round of his main event fight with Raul Rosas Jr at UFC Vegas 121. While it’s unclear exactly what happened, Barcelos remained unconscious for several minutes, with medical personal attending to him and then removing him from the arena on a stretcher, where he was taken to the local hospital.

Eventually, Barcelos woke up, and though details are still vague on what the specific issue was, the Brazilian fighter seems to be doing much better and was released from the hospital.

Dana White, who was not in attendance for UFC Vegas 121, spoke to reporters for the first time about the incident following the latest episode of Contender Series on Tuesday night.

“Thank God, he’s doing well. He’s doing well,” White said. “He’s up walking around, talking, and — yeah.

“It goes right in line with everything I always talk about and what we do. All the pre-fight medicals were triple-checked, everything was good. There were six doctors here that night, three ambulances, he was taken straight to the trauma center, not to Valley. Everything was done the right way and the outcome was good [knocks on the table].”

There’s currently no official diagnosis of what happened, or at least not one that’s been made public, and there’s no timeline on when Barcelos will be discharged from the hospital or when he might return to training. And Barcelos insists he will return to training and to fighting even after this ordeal, but for now, White isn’t even considering any of that.

“Not even thinking about that,” White said. “Who gives a shit? As long as the kid is OK.”
