Josh Hokit shares bizarre reaction to UFC title opportunity

Josh Hokit is just months away from competing for his first-ever title in the sport.

No regional success. No lengthy career outside of the UFC before making the switch to the sport’s premier promotion. Hokit has been competing in mixed martial arts for less than three years. With a wrestling background, his many controversial personalities, and characteristics money can’t buy—heart and grit—Hokit has forced his way into the UFC title picture after less than a year with the company.

Headlining UFC 334, Josh Hokit will be given his chance to become the heavyweight champion when he collides with Ciryl Gane. The news comes after Tom Aspinall was forced to vacate his title due to complications following eye surgery. Relishing his moment, Hokit shared how he was offered a shot at UFC gold.

“I woke up. Hunter Campbell called me. He said two words: Ciryl Gane. I said, ‘Do it. Do it.’ I ain’t turning it down, you know what I’m saying?” Hokit said. “I turned other sh*t down, but I can’t turn this down. I was like, ‘Sign me up.’ And we hung up the phone… I ain’t turning sh*t down from the UFC. Give me a name, I’ll fight everybody; same night. Especially with the money they’re paying me now.”

In the wake of Tom Aspinall having to vacate his title, Ciryl Gane was promoted from interim to undisputed champion.

While he disagrees with the UFC’s decision, Josh Hokit is glad he gets to take the undisputed label away from Gane when they meet in the center of the octagon on November 14.

“Honest opinion, I don’t think he deserves an undisputed title. But, I mean, it’s better for me because when I beat him, I’m going to be undisputed. But I don’t think you should reward someone for cheating.”
