Dana White Open To Volkanovski Vs. Gaethje Superfight

If Alexander Volkanovski wants another crack at becoming a UFC double champion then he actually might get it.
Earlier this month, the UFC featherweight champion pitched apotential superfight against UFC lightweight titleholder Justin Gaethje. Volkanovski has already failed twice at trying to win UFC’s 155-pound belt, but that came against pound-for-pound great Islam Makhachev. Gaethje is a different story and it would make for one hell of a double retirement fight.
Volkanovski, who doesn’t have much time left in his storied career, is scheduled to defend his featherweight title against Movsar Evloev this weekend at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. If Volkanovski is able to escape Evloev’s wrestling-heavy attacks and keep his title then a clash with Gaethje could be in the works. There are certainly more deserving contenders at 155 pounds — including Arman Tsarukyan, Ilia Topuria, and Paddy Pimblett — but UFC brass already seem on board.
That’s because Volkanovski has accomplished so much throughout his MMA career that it would almost be impossible to say no. Check it out below:
“If he wins again tomorrow, this guy’s accomplished so much, it’s hard to say no to a guy like that,” said UFC CEO Dana White during a live stream on Friday.
“When a guy gets to his level, there isn’t too many things we’d say ‘no’ to him about. If he’s got things he wants to do before he hangs it up, I’m sure we’ll be very supportive.”
